Originally performed in London 1724, Giulio Cesare is a three-act Italian opera written by George Frederic Handel. The opera begins on the banks of the Nile River and recounts the meeting and famous relationship of Julius Cesar and Cleopatra. As Cesar aids Cleopatra in becoming the queen of Egypt, the two rulers fall in love amid a backdrop of war.
