Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa the Afro-fusion band Freshlyground has created a sound with elements of traditional African music, blues, jazz and indie rock since its conception in 2002. The seven-piece band released its debut album Jika Jika in 2003 and solidified itself as the new face of South African music with appearances at the Rodden Island African Festival and the Harare International Festival of the Arts. Freshlyground continued to garner commercial success with its sophomore album Nomvula, which featured the rock/pop and jazz favorite, "Doo Be Doo," while also maintaining its voice as a socially aware artist with projects such as its "Chicken for Change" music video. In collaboration with Zenews, the band created the video as a critique and satire of the President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe.
