Krzysztof Penderecki is a Polish composer and conductor who has been referred to by many reputable sources to be Poland's greatest living composer. Born in 1933, Penderecki studied at the Academy of Music before he began his composing career in 1959 with a piece for the Warsaw Autumn Festival. Having written many instrumental concertos, symphonies and orchestral pieces, some of his best known works include Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima, St. Luke Passion and Polish Requiem.
