Hailing form Paris, Les Nubians is an R&B duo made up of sisters Hélène and Célia Faussart. The two musicians got their start performing a cappella, producing slam poetry sessions in Bordeaux and Paris and singing background vocals for various acts before dropping their debut album as Les Nubians, Princesses Nubiennes. Released in 1998 with Virgin Records, the record earned the group international acclaim for its neo-soul sound, particularly in the US where it was nominated for a Grammy Award. After one more album with Virgin, 2003's One Step Forward, the sisters decided to take complete creative control as executive producers by releasing their band's next album Echos, Chapter One, on their own imprint, appropriately called Nubiatik.
