The Welders burst onto the scene in November 1976, making their debut at the all-ages club Blueberry Jam with borrowed instruments. Stephanie took on vocals, Jane handled drums and keyboards, Caroline rocked the bass, while Kelly and Julie shredded the guitars. Despite their teenage years coinciding with the rise of the Runaways, the Welders were a force of their own, though they admired the Runaways upon discovering them. A chance encounter with the Runaways in 1977 led to a memorable meeting, yet the Welders remained determined to forge their own path, penning songs like "Debutantes in Bondage" in response to their counterparts.
