Ortolan is an indie pop quartet consisting of three sisters and one sister-in-law. Their journey began in 2007 when songwriter Stephanie Cottingham performed at a church coffeehouse with a friend's support. Encouraged by the audience's response, Stephanie, along with her older sisters Lara on drums and Brianna on bass, began regular appearances at the coffeehouse. Their talent caught the attention of Ken Fabianovicz, who introduced them to Daniel Smith, a local producer and founder of Sounds Familyre label. With the addition of keyboardist/vocalist Jill Cottingham, the group officially joined Sounds Familyre's roster. Their demo recordings, released in 2009 as the Ortolan EP, led to the release of their full-length album, "Time on a String," in the subsequent year.
