With a lineup composed of sought-after sessions musicians and solo artists, The Boxcars was destined to make waves in the world of bluegrass music. The idea was originally conceived of by Ron Stewart and Adam Steffey while on tour with the Dan Tyminski Band. A casual conversation over coffee soon turned serious and The Boxcars was born. The band made its debut not long after with a lineup completed by musicians Keith Garrett, John Bowman, and Harold Nixon. The fact that each could take the lead gave the band a kind of versatility that's hard to come by. They began touring in 2010 and their self-titled debut album followed that same year, making it just in time to be nominated for the 2011 International Bluegrass Music Awards. That year, they won the title of "Instrumental Group of the Year" and "Emerging Artist of the Year" at the IBMA. Although many more nominations and awards would follow, the band eventually called it quits in 2017 with four full-length albums to their name.
