Deerhoof is a noise rock band that formed in San Francisco around 1992 with a sound characterized by angular time changes, fragile female vocals and occasional crushing guitar riffs. Over the course of a dozen albums in only fifteen years starting with its 1997 debut The Man, the King, the Girl, Deerhoof has veered away from any expectations of its music, giving each of its releases a different feel. The band's 2005 EP Green Cosmos, which was sung by vocalist Satomi Matsuzaki in her native language of Japanese, was a turn-around from the raw 2003 album, Apple O', which in turn was a complete departure from the layered electronic feel of 1999's Reveille. Deerhoof's multi-dimensional catalog of music has captured a broad fan base, from its humble noise rock beginnings to its indie rock anthems and wild versions of pop music.
