Girls was an indie rock duo from San Francisco that formed when songwriter Christopher Owens met drummer and producer Chet "JR" White upon moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. The two musicians bonded over their punk/hardcore pasts and began writing and recording music together that would eventually become Girl's 2009 debut album, titled Album. A former member of the Children of God cult, in which music from outside the group is prohibited, Owens used his new freedom for exploration, allowing him to reach new levels of expression through music. From its beginning, Girls has received consistent critical acclaim for its albums and Girl's 2011 album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost was recorded with additional musicians who added guitar, an organ, flutes and backing vocals to fulfill the two-man band's musical vision.
