Turisas is a folk/Viking metal band from Hämeenlinna, Finland that was founded in 1997 and was named after the Finnish god of war. Responsible for coining the genre term "battle metal" since the release of its debut album of the same name, Turisas' sound can be described as an eclectic combination of power metal and symphonic metal, which is intensified visually by the band members' wearing suits of battle armor and make-up whilst on-stage. As evidenced by the band's success on tours and with album sales worldwide, Turisas continues to be one of the most successful Scandinavian metal bands of its kind.
