Musical oddballs are a rare commodity these days. Years ago there were pioneers like Frank Zappa and Captain Beefhart, but now musicians who venture into "strange" territory seem to be doing it for sheer kitsch value. One musician who has been a weirdo since the get go is Les Claypool. The bass player/singer rose to prominence with his avant-garde rock troupe Primus in the 90s and has since made a name for himself as a solo musician. He's widely considered to be one of the more talented bass players of his generation with his unique slap style and while his slightly outlandish voice is a bit idiocentric, it suits his music perfectly.
