Oysterhead is an alternative rock supergroup that makes a characteristic style of music that has been referred to as "funk metal." Formed after organizers of the New Orleans Jazz Fest asked Les Claypool, singer/songwriter and bassist for Primus, to assemble a band for a special performance at the festival, Claypool contacted Trey Anastasio, singer and guitarist of the prolific jam band Phish, and together they decided on a mutual musical hero of theirs to join the band's ranks--Stewart Copeland, legendary drummer of The Police. The three musicians created some original tracks by all infusing their characteristic talents into cohesive songs and played its first ever show on May 4th, 2000, with tickets being scalped out front of the venue for $2,000 each. Oysterhead, as the group would be called, released its debut album, Grand Pecking Order, the following year in 2001 and the group's unique music, that was noted for its characteristic blending of Claypool and Anastasio's voices, managed to resonate well with listeners, who helped sell out every performance of the band's 2001 tour. Though each member decided to go his own respective way following the conclusion of the tour, the band reunited for a one-off performance in 2006 at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
