Blumfeld (years active: 1990-2007) was an indie pop band from Hamburg, Germany that is generally considered to be one of the premier representatives of the German indie scene. Named after a character in Franz Kafka's short story "Blumenfeld, an Elderly Bachelor," Blumfeld explores themes of modern consumerism and the status of the human soul in contemporary society. Although the band's music takes on a slightly pessimistic and melancholic tone, Blumfeld's success was nothing short of remarkable, and after 17 years as a band, the members decided to break up to pursue their own careers as solo artists.
