Jaco Pastorius was an American musician who was widely-known for his skills as a virtuoso electronic bass player. Raised in Florida, Pastorious initially played the drums, but after injuring his wrist, he switched to the bass. Though he first began practicing on an electric, Pastorious would soon switch to an upright bass, but then back to an electric because he said the humidity of his Florida apartment effected the structural integrity of his upright. Having established himself as one of the more unique and talented jazz fusion bass players of his generation, and possibly ever, Pastorious appeared on many albums during his lifetime, where he served as a hired gun bass player. His life was cut tragically short at the age of 35 following a violent altercation at a Ft. Lauderdale drinking establishment.
