Johnny Paycheck (real name: Donald Eugene Lytle) was a popular American country music singer from Ohio. Probably best known for his remake of the David Allan Coe song "Take This Job and Shove It," he became a legend of the outlaw country scene, finding his greatest stretch of success throughout the 1970s. Paycheck was raised with a love of country music apparent from a very young age, and upheld honky tonk traditions on his earliest recordings. Over the years, as his hard-living lifestyle began to mirror his more rugged outlaw musical style, he struggled with addictions to drugs and alcohol. By the early 2000s, deteriorating health ended Paycheck's performing career and he passed away shortly after.
