Phyllis Hyman was a smooth jazz/soul singer and actress from Philadelphia. In 1974, she caught the attention of Sid Maurer and Fred Frank who signed her to their Roadshow Records/Desert Moon label. Her self-titled debut album was released in 1977, and her first Top Ten hit came only four years later in 1981, with her duet with Michael Henderson "Can't We Fall In Love Again." Subsequently, Hyman was performing in the Broadway musical Sophisticated Ladies, for which she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical and won the Theatre World Award for Best Newcomer. Throughout her life, Hyman released eight albums of soul, R&B, jazz and disco music, and after her death, the Philadelphia International label went on to release two more albums under her name, the last of which was the 1998 compilation of love songs and smooth ballads, Forever With You.
