Yazoo (known simply as Yaz in the United States) was a 1980s synthpop and new wave duo from Essex, England. The band consisted of Vince Clarke, a former member of Depeche Mode, and Alison Moyet as lead singer. Classic pop songs such as "Don't Go" and "Only You" showcased the duo's ability to craft memorable tracks from its sparse instrumentation of usually just synthesizers, vocals and occasional drums. Many modern day electronic artists, such as LCD Soundsystem and Hercules and Love Affair have credited Yazoo as an inspiration, despite the fact that the duo was technically only active between the years of 1981 to 1983. Clarke and Moyet reunited in 2008 for a handful of shows and the recording of a live album.
