Dr. Dre is the stage name for Andre Romelle Young, a rap artist and record producer from Compton, California who is perhaps best known for successfully producing and bringing to prominence such internationally renowned hip-hop artists as Snoop Dog, Eminem, and 50 Cent. Originally a part of the highly influential gangsta rap collective N.W.A., Dr. Dre experienced huge commercial and critical success with his 1992 solo debut The Chronic. Since then, Dr. Dre has turned to focus more on the production and business aspects of recording and is generally considered to be a deity of sorts among rap and hip-hop producers successfully emerging on the scene today.
