In the beginning there was man. Then man started banding two rocks together and he created music. Over years and years of banging, plucking, hitting and tapping things man created an opportunity to perform music in front of an audience. Things carried on like this for a while and soon people began to get bored watching musicians just play their instruments rather languidly. Lucky the flamboyant and theatrical singer/performer Arthur Brown came along. His debut in the late 1960s garnered him much respect for his original and highly visual approach to a typical concert. During his heyday he was known to dress in a custom tailored suit of sheet metal and be lowered down from the rafters onto the stage--all while the suite is engulfed in flames. Brown was also one of the first to wear war-paint style make up; inspiring the likes of Alice Cooper, KISS, Marlyn Manson and Peter Gabriel.
