In 2009, after fronting the Austin, Texas-based rock band Lions for the past few years, singer/songwriter Matt Drenik was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease known as uveitis. With no known reason or cure for the disease, Drenik began to look at life in a new light and he began to write different songs, as a result. After deciding that a change of pace in his lifestyle was needed, Drenik moved to Portland, Oregon in 2010--soon dedicating all his time to writing songs in the basement where he was living. Shortly after recording over 40 tunes, some of the tracks got into the hands of Ghostland Observatory's Thomas Turner, who offered to help produce Drenik's debut LP. Dubbing the project Battleme, the sessions that followed produced an album of forward thinking post-modern rock and roll that was released in 2012, to well receiving critics and listeners alike.
