Hailing from a family of comics, Charlie Murphy is a stand up comedian from Brooklyn and the older brother of Eddie Murphy. He rose to fame as a recurring performer on the hit series Chappelle's Show, for segments such as Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories and eventually earned his own hour-long Comedy Central specials. While he has appeared in various minor film roles, Murphy has experienced the majority of his post-Chappelle's Show success on television with the sketch comedy series Charlie Murphy's Crash Comedy, and his character Leroy Smith, which Nike used in several advertisements. After a battle with leukemia, Charlie Murphy passed away in 2017.
