Indie folk artist Alex Brown Church began performing as Sea Wolf in 2003 to realize the extra material he was writing for his band Irving. When his songs didn't match up with Irving's style, he adopted a rotating cast of supporting musicians and began creating infectious music with folk influences and a strong indie rock sensibility. With subtle layers of instrumentation, created in part by a stand-up cello in place of a bass guitar, Sea Wolf quickly became a mainstay on the Southern California indie rock circuit following the 2007 release of its debut LP, Leaves in the River.
