Haitian Compas band Tabou Combo was formed in 1969 when its founding members were still in high school. After winning a televised talent contest and gaining national fame, founder Albert Chancy's parents became involved and sent Chancy to college in Montreal, thus the band dissembled. However, after dissipating throughout the US a few years later, the band reformed without Chancy and with a few more lineup changes, but a consistent dedication to tropical Haitian sound, Tabou Combo has become Haiti's claim to fame, touring the world and playing to sold out venues on a regular basis.
