Leningrad Cowboys is a rock and roll outfit that has built a reputation off of its comedy-infused covers of popular songs. Based in Finland, the band dropped its first LP, titled 1917-1987, in 1987, before rising to recognition with the 1989 feature film, Leningrad Cowboys Go America, and subsequent album of the same name. Directed by Aki Kaurismaki, who also helped conceive the band, the film catapulted the group onto the international stage. With a mix of polka-inspired progressive rock originals as well as its famous cover songs, Leningrad Cowboys continues to expand its reach across the world.
