American Opera is an indie folk rock outfit led by singer/songwriter and Saginaw, Michigan, native John Bee. Based in New York City, the band formed in 2011 and released its debut EP, Demo/Listen, in 2012. After collecting a fan base among the local community and on a few East Coast and Midwest tours, American Opera dropped its follow-up effort, the Your Songs EP, in 2013.
