A Capella octet, The Swingle Singers formed in 1967 in Paris as a backing vocalist group for recording artists, including Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour. After singing Bach's instrumental Well-Tempered Klavier for warm-up, the group realized that this practice drill had potential and decided to record it as a present for family and friends. Radio DJs eventually got a hold of this album and the band went on to receive acclaim and popularity. While The Swingle Singers has consistently changed lineups, with various members often leaving the group then re-auditioning to join again later on, it has maintained a characteristic sound since its formation fifty years ago and has been featured in countless television show and Hollywood blockbusters both with its classical and contemporary covers.
