Diane Schuur is a jazz vocalist and pianist from the suburbs of Seattle who found her affinity for singing at two and a half. While attending the Washington State School for the Blind, she honed her three-and-a-half octave range and began to write and perform her own original material. She earned her break in 1979 when Stan Getz heard her rendition of "Amazing Grace" at the iconic Monterey Jazz Festival. After Getz invited her to perform with him at the White House in 1982, Schuur released her debut album Deedles, in 1984. She earned her first Grammy Award with her follow up album, 1986's Timeless, and went on to release nearly an album a year. With a catalog of over three dozen records, Schurr has earned her status as a jazz legend along with the likes of her friends and collaborators Quincy Jones, Ray Charles and B.B. King.
