San Francisco-based band Botanist is a one-man black metal project that was founded in 2009. Fusing experimental metal with themes surrounding the self-eradication of humanity and a natural green earth, the man behind the project describes his sound as eco-terrorist black metal. Botanist released its debut album I: The Suicide Tree / II: A Rose From the Dead, in 2011, filling a void within the metal community with its unassuming green initiatives. The band followed up the record with the more doom metal sounding III: Doom in Bloom / Allies, in 2012, before dropping its fourth studio record IV: Mandragora, in 2013.
