Anyone who claims to have a deep admiration for the krautrock genre undoubtedly holds German-based musician Michael Rother in high regard. The names of the bands he has played with read like a role call of the more prominent groups to emerge out of the krautrock scene in the 70s and 80s: Neu!, Harmonica and Kraftwerk (early stuff). Though Rother has remained somewhat of an elusive figure, the music he plays on the guitar is highly experimental and memorable to say the least. Most of his tunes are entirely instrumental and while there are no vocals, the noises that Rother creates on his electric guitar speak to a very basic level of human communication that everyone can comprehend subtle messages from.
