Juliette Gréco was a French singer/songwriter and popular chanson vocalist whose decades long career has helped her become one of the more iconic French songstress to emerge from the mid-20th century. Born and raised in Montpellier, in the South of France, Gréco would eventually move to the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood of Paris in 1946. Inspired by the intellectual and bohemian lifestyle that surrounded her, Gréco began singing and soon released her debut album, 1950's Si tu t'imagines. With her iconic style (black everything) and her characteristic style of singing, Gréco dominated French popular culture in the 1950s and 1960s. Still performing and releasing music to this day, Gréco is viewed and respected as an elder stateswoman of the modern French music community. Gréco passed away at the age of 93 in 2020.
