Probably one of the most highly revered as well as reviled teams in the history of Portuguese football, Benfica is one of the oldest and most successful clubs. The sports club was founded in 1904 and it has won the most titles since the inception of the League in 1934. A couple of the team's nicknames include Águias (Eagles) and Encarnados (Reds), while the fans are called Benfiquistas. The massive Estádio da Luz, which holds a capacity of 65,000, is always packed and when the team plays its rival, Sporting, the entire city of Lisbon erupts in the century-old ‘Derby Eterno’. Several legendary footballers such as Eusébio, Rui Costa, Javier Saviola and Pablo Aimar have put on the famous red shirt of SL Benfica.
