Named after Marlon Brando's motorcycle gang in the 1953 film The Wild One, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club has incorporated elements of garage rock, blues, folk and neo-psychedelia to create a characteristic sound that is offhandedly often compared to bands like The Rolling Stones and the Velvet Underground. The Los Angeles by-way-of San Francisco band was formed in 1998 and occasionally writes songs with religious lyrics, which might confuse listeners who perceive the band as a profane rock band intent on warping the morals of America's youth.
