The Chicago White Sox are a Major League Baseball team and a member of the American League Central Division. Originally named the Chicago White Stockings, the White Sox entered the league in 1900 as one of the eight American League charter franchises. Perhaps the best known event in franchise history was the “Black Sox Scandal,” in which a group of White Sox players were accused of purposefully losing the 1919 World Series. Eight players, including Shoeless Joe Jackson were banned from baseball for life.
