Three brothers, Jennings, Lain and Van Carney, comprise the Baltimore neo-psych band, Pontiak. Thanks to the group's use of distorted guitars, low-tuned bass tones and hard-hitting drumming, "heavy" is often the first word that critics use when describing Pontiak's music. Beyond the loud and brawny riffs, however, you can find traces of classic rock, metal and the grungy genre popularized by bands like Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age known as stoner rock. The band's music is never short on discernible hooks either, which nicely counterbalance the heaviness with plenty of slow, seductive grooves.
