Probably best known as lead guitarist for 70s country-tinged psychedelic rock group, New Riders of the Purple Sage, David Nelson has had the opportunity to work with some notable figures in classic rock. A long-lasting working relationship with Jerry Garcia led to the folky and bluegrass project, The Wildwood Boys, as well as Nelson's guest appearances on several Grateful Dead albums. In the mid-90s, he decided to piece together his own group, pulling together band mates and session musicians who had worked with the likes of Phil Lesh, Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna and John Fogerty, among others. So it comes as no real surprise that the David Nelson Band's music is very reminiscent of that combination of psychedelic, jammy folk-rock the aforementioned groups prided themselves on. In 2005, Nelson reunited New Riders of the Purple Sage and continues to tour with both of his bands.
