Named after the South American rodent, Capybara is an Austin, Texas-based band that could be described as bedroom-pop or dream-pop. The main thing that distinguishes this band as such is its use of synthesizers and analog electronics. By adding a fuzzy, blippy overtone to its indie rock underpinnings, Capybara creates a sound that transcends the musical context of the 21st century and places it into many decades at once. This aesthetic, however, does seem to place the band squarely within the 21st century indie zeitgeist. Capybara tour frequently through the U.S. and as of 2011 had only produced a small catalog of material with no release date in sight.
