Inspired heavily by electropop and punk rock, the Brazilian group, Lucy and the Popsonics, creates songs that represent a new generation of musicians who call Brazil home. Formed in 2006, the group employs distinctive electronic beats in its songs, but also uses distorted guitar riffs and chugging bass lines. Somewhat known already in its native country, Lucy and the Popsonics popularity will surely grow with more widespread touring. Though the band's electronic-intensive sound might seem ill-fitted for live performances, the group's eponymous female vocalist manages to add some distinct flair to stage shows with buoyant theatrics and her characteristically chirpy style of singing in her native Portuguese tongue.
