Monareta

Bogota, Colombia duo Monareta is part of a growing trend of musicians fusing the Colombian folk genre of cumbia with contemporary electronic music, dub and hip-hop. Lead Monareta songwriter, Andres Martinez, is inspired by some of these American-born sounds in part because he attended New York University for film, an experience that afforded him a musical exposure unlike anything he could experience in Bogota. Monareta now resides in Brooklyn, where it landed a track on the Warner Brothers film, Pride and Glory.
