Created by former member of 70s hard rock band Elf, David "Rock" Feinstein, The Rods came to public attention with the release of its debut album in 1980. Somewhat involved in the first wave of hair metal, the trio blended the over-the-top stage presence of glam rock with the power chords of heavy metal to moderate success. After remaining active throughout the 1980s, The Rods broke up, but stayed fairly involved in the heavy metal scene by producing albums by other bands. In 2008, the trio announced a reunion and followed it up with an album of new material.
