The country soul outfit Deadman formed in Austin, Texas in 1999. Originally conceived simply as a medium for chief songwriter Steven Collins to release his material, the project has blossomed into a fully-formed group with output now a result of each member's unique contributions. Attempting to bridge the gap between disparate genres such as gospel, vintage country and blue-eyed soul, Deadman uses acoustic guitars, organ, accordion and plenty of backing vocals to convey its retro-minded tracks. Echoes of soulful country groups from the 1970s like The Band surround Deadman's music and its tried-and-true approach has won it a number of devoted fans throughout Austin and beyond.
