Mystery Palace is a Minneapolis-based trio that plays modern electropop and dance rock. Former leader of the Oxford, Ohio indie rock outfit 12 Rods, keyboardist and vocalist Ryan Olcott started Mystery Palace in the late 2000s, aiming to explore some of the more electronic-oriented influences he hadn't had the change to delve into with his former group. He put together a smooth rhythm section comprised of James Buckley (bass) and Joey Van Phillips (drums) and began writing songs that would turn into the group's debut LP, Flags Forward. Olcott loves to experiment with sounds, often re-circuiting keyboards and combining instrument parts to create the funky and unorthodox tones that pepper Mystery Palace's songs.
