The Feelies is a post punk band from New Jersey that was active between 1976 and 1992 before reuniting in 2008. Known for rarely working with producers, The Feelies used multiple guitar layers to create massive soundscapes that filled venues around Hoboken, NJ and eventually New York City, where the band was pegged as The Best Underground Band In New York by the Village Voice in 1978. Though band members collaborated on other music projects and formed bands such as The Willies and The Trypes together with other local New Jersey musicians after releasing of The Feelies' debut album Crazy Rhythms in 1980, the group continuously played shows and wrote new material, eventually releasing the 1985 record The Good Earth, which the band supported on tour with Lou Reed and R.E.M the following year. Following two more studio albums, the band called it quits until 2009, when The Feelies performed at several shows around the New York area to warm up to record its fifth studio album, Here Before, which would be released in 2011.
