AJ Auxerre is a French football team that was formed in 1905. The team’s home stadium, Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps, is situated in the town of Auxerre, which is in the French province of Burgundy. It made its debut in the top flight of French football in 1981 and continued to be a division one team for the next three decades, winning the league once along the way. A ninth placed finish after the 2011-12 season meant that AJ Auxerre would drop down to Ligue 2 for the first time in 32 years. The club is also responsible for kickstarting the careers of world class players such as Laurent Blanc, Djibril Cissé and Eric Cantona.
