Thin Lizzy is an Irish rock band that formed in 1969 when members of the duo Orphanage merged with members of Shades of Blue to create one super group. The band released its self-titled debut in 1971 and defined its classic rock style with elements of hard rock, Celtic rock and blues rock. The band enjoyed widespread notoriety throughout the 1970s, largely due to its 1976 album Fighting, which featured its hit song, "The Boys Are Back in Town." Despite its commercial and critical success, the group suffered from a continuous member turnover rate, which caused Thin Lizzy to break up and reunite several times. After front man Phil Lynott's death in 1986, Thin Lizzy disbanded for over a decade and eventually reunited in 1996, but never regained the same enthusiasm for its classic rock sound that it enjoyed in past decades.
