Fitting well amongst the 1970s folk songbirds like Sibylle Baier and Vashti Bunyan, Jane Weaver creates a more haunting version of this genre of music, including elements from electronica to form her characteristic style of hazy folktronica. Spending the 1990s in the bands Kill Laura and Misty Dixon, the Manchester-based musician released a solo album--a more stripped down take on her work with Misty Dixon--in 2002. Since then the singer/songwriter has started her own record label Bird Records, that maintains a roster of other female folk songstresses creating music in a similar vein. While Weaver prefers to shy away from the limelight, she still releases critically acclaimed albums and occasionally performs around the UK.
