The Providence Friars take their name and colors from the Dominican clerics at this Roman Catholic college established in 1917. The college plays NCAA Division I sports and the teams play in the Big East Conference, except for hockey which plays in Hockey East. There are 19 different athletic programs, a short list of which includes basketball, tennis, lacrosse, softball and volleyball. The Friars have three NCAA national titles, one in ice hockey during the 2015 season and two in cross country (1995, 2013).
