Juan de Marcos is a musician from Havana, Cuba who is best known for his work with the Buena Vista Social Club. Though he grew up a fan of American and British rock music, de Marcos tapped into his Cuban roots before starting his first music project, a traditional Cuban band called Sierra Maestra in 1978. With the goal of keeping Cuban folk music alive for new generations, the band has recorded over a dozen albums and toured internationally. After becoming a major player in the Buena Vista Social Club, he began working with a super group of musicians that would become known as Afro-Cuban All Stars. Through all of his projects, de Margos has moved forward with the goal to expose the diversity and vitality of Cuban music to the world.
