Though Robert Ian McNabb might primarily be known as the chief songwriter and front man for British alternative rock group The Icicle Works, he tones down his rock influence in his solo work. After McNabb's band split up in 1990 he began crafting his own downtempo acoustic tunes and released his debut solo album, Truth and Beauty, in 1993. He has since garnered critical acclaim for his various recordings, particularly 2002's The Gentlemen Adventurer, a semi-acoustic effort with elements of rock, funk, power ballad narratives. McNabb has also collaborated with other artists and joined many on stage as a touring bassist. Some major acts include Ringo Starr and Mike Scott & The Waterboys.
