Fronted by the infamous Ian Dury, The Blockheads formed in London in 1979, under the same managers as Pink Floyd. Though many of the band's singles were banned by the BBC, including the hit "Sex, Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll," the subsequent phrase Dury is often credited with coining, The Blockheads still found a good deal of success with its new wave punk-rock. With the combination of Dury's witty lyrics and the band's diverse musical influences, including reggae, funk and jazz, The Blockheads released multiple platinum albums and toured successfully up until 2000. That year, however, Dury finally succumbed to the cancer he had been fighting. The band continues to perform and release albums in memory of Dury.
