Club Brugge or Club Bruges is not just one of Belgium's most successful clubs, but is also a continental powerhouse. Established in 1891, it is one of the country's oldest competitive football clubs and a founding member of the UBSSA. However, it was more than two decades later that the club won its first championship. It was bumped to the second division during a lean patch in the 1940s and much of the 1950s, before the 1958-59 season brought around a turn of fortune and helped it regain its position in the first division of Belgian football. Since then it has made a name for itself as one of the most distinguished clubs in the history of the sport in the country, having won the Belgian league championship multiple times in every decade since 1972. It is the only Belgian clubs to feature in a European Cup final. Club Bruges is based at the Jan Breydel Stadium, which it shares with Cercle Brugge.
